I need a colour boost!
Q. I have mousy hair and hazel eyes and really want to give my locks a colour boost for my wedding in November. I haven't dyed my hair before. Can you recommend any tones or application methods to me?
A. Inanch Emir says: Inanch says: There are two options: The first is to go for a simple, but effective, colour gloss which will add tone and shine to your hair making it really glow. The second option is to apply a few hazel tones and lighter browns to your hair. Don't overdo it around your face though; the idea is to add warmth and variation without it being too excessive.
I'm after luscious locks!
Q. My hair is looking very dry, flat and dull and I want it to look full and gorgeous on my big day. Are there any treatments I can have to improve its condition?
A. Inanch Emir says: If you want to use something at home, I would suggest Philip Kinglsey's Elasticizer. It's great for improving the health of extremely broken or damaged hair, whether it's as a result of chemical processing, physical trauma or poor health. Frequent use of this intensive treatment should restore elasticity and shine so I would recommend you get going and start using it once a week for one to two months before your wedding.
For a salon-based treatment, I recommend Micro Mist, a revolutionary new treatment that rejuvenates hair, giving it the strength you need. As the name suggests, it uses mist rather than steam which is generated by ultrasound to process the conditioning treatment. It works in two ways: Firstly, it penetrates the cuticle of the hair to a greater depth, pushing the product deeper inside the hair where it's needed most. Secondly, it has a cooling system at the end of each treatment, which cools your locks and closes the cuticles, trapping the treatment inside. As a result it gives a much longer lasting finish, which will see you through the big day and beyond.
I want to add volume
Q. As an Asian woman my hair is very straight and I really want to add some volume for my wedding day. Any suggestions?
A. Inanch Emir says: Asian hair tends to be very heavy which means it's not really suitable for voluminous looks, which often fall flat within minutes. What hairdressers can do to create volume is use texturising cutting methods. Ask your stylist to cut in layers which will add texture, and automatically create movement and lift. A good hairspray, such as Schwarzkopf Silhouette, can then ensure a firm yet natural hold to last the big day. Alternatively, go for a dramatic up do which can give the illusion of volume and will look great all day.
Wow Factor
Q. I want to wow my fiancé with a radical new hair do. Do you have any suggestions?
A. Inanch Emir says: It's easy to create a wow factor by changing how you usually wear your hair. Let your personal style and character determine whether it's an extreme or slight change. If you have long hair you could simply ask your hairdresser to add layers or change the colour. If your fiancé usually sees you with your hair down, why not ask for a creative up-do? Short hair can be more difficult to change but again, the colour can be altered or you can go all-out with hair extensions for a whole new look. As it's your big day it's important to be happy and comfortable with the results. I recommend a consultation with your hairdresser and colourist before any decision is made as they can advise you which styles will suit your face shape and hair type.
Flyaway Hair
Q. My hair is very fine and I want it to look full of volume in my wedding pictures. What can I do to achieve this?
A. Inanch Emir says: To add thickness and volume to fine hair I would recommend using products like Maximizer by Philip Kingsley before you blow dry your hair. Also talk to your stylist about some blow drying techniques to ensure that you make the most of your locks. If this still doesn't give you the results you are looking for, extensions are a very effective way of making hair a lot thicker on a temporary basis.
Lasting Style
Q. How can I ensure that my hairstyle will last my whole wedding day?
A. Inanch Emir says: Keeping your hair in place during your special day is all about preparation, good products and a great stylist. Your hair length, texture and whether you're wearing it up or down will determine which products and styling techniques should be used. Preparing the hair properly is paramount. If you choose an up do, shampoo your hair the morning of, or night before, the wedding as clean hair will not hold a style very well. If you're wearing long hair down, speak to your stylist about what looks are realistic to achieve with your hair type. If you want cascading waves but your hair is straight it can be achieved, but you may need to have it set to give it the staying power you want.
Staying Power
Q. I've decided on a glamorous up-do for my wedding. How can I make sure it stays in place all day and night?
A. Inanch Emir says: If you have straight hair and you want curls it is vital that the hair is set properly and excess amounts of hairspray are applied to keep the hair in place throughout the evening. On a different scale, if you have frizzy hair and want it straight for your special day, you need to ensure that it is blow-dried thoroughly so it stays frizz-free all evening. This is where styling products play an important part!
Colour Craze
Q. How close to my wedding day should I have my hair coloured or highlighted?
A. Inanch Emir says: If you have a regular colourist that you have seen for at least three consecutive visits I would recommend having your hair done within a week of your wedding.
This way it will be fresh and re-growth free for the wedding day and throughout your honeymoon. If you don't have a regular colourist, however, I would strongly recommend that you find one and have at least a partial set of highlights six to eight weeks before the day.
You can then have a full head of colour the week of your wedding if you are happy with the results from your first appointment. If you are looking for a new colourist, ask around for personal recommendations, preferably from people with similar hair to yours or with a similar colour to how you would like it to be.
Luscious Locks
Q. I'm thinking about having hair extensions for my wedding day but am not sure what to look for. Can you advise me?
A. Inanch Emir says: Firstly think about what look you would like to achieve. Do you want to wear your hair up, or down? Do you want a temporary solution, such as wefts or hair pieces, or a permanent one that will last throughout your honeymoon too? Either way, it is important to research your options to achieve the look that's right for you.
Use the internet and book a few consultations with salons that you like the look of. These consultations should be cost free and with no obligation to buy.
Look for application methods that won't damage your natural hair. Good extensions should also achieve an exact colour match to your natural locks ? so no-one will be able to tell but you.
Find Your Style
Q. I have a round face and I am unsure whether to wear my hair up or down! Which styles would suit me best?
A. Inanch Emir says: Face shapes do not play such a strong role as people think in the styles that you can and can't have. Although you do have to be mindful of features that can be 'toned down' or 'balanced' by adding height or volume, depending on what it is about your face shape you like or dislike.
For a round face it's best to have height on top and none on the sides as this will elongate your face. Look through magazines and pick out styles you would love for your wedding day - you can easily choose any style and have your stylist modify it to complement your face shape.

BRIDAL HAIR TIPS by Inanch – Q & A
What kind of up-do's suit different face shapes / hair texture? Up-do's will suit everyone. The most important aspect to remember is that everyone has a different face structure so the bridal hairdresser should create a bespoke 'up-do hairstyle' to suit that person's facial features. For example, those with round faces should have extra height on top. For those with long faces, extra width on sides should be applied to generate a good shape.
How can you help your up-do stay in place all day and night? If you have straight hair and you want curls it is vital that the hair is set properly and excess amounts of hairspray are applied to keep the hair in place throughout the evening. On a different scale, if you have frizzy hair and want it straight for your special day, you need to ensure that it is blow-dried thoroughly so it stays frizz-free all evening. This is where styling products play an important part!
How do you position your veil? Positioning of the veil varies depending on your style, the veil itself and the length of your own hair, not forgeting your personal preferences.
How would you describe a classic up-do? Clean, sharp - Audrey Hepburn style!
What is a modern up-do? More and more brides are having their hair done in a similar way to their everyday look with perhaps a bit more bounce. It should always be about what will make the individual bride look and feel good hence giving her the confidence she requires for her special day!
How should you want your hair to look on your wedding day? Healthy and shiny hair is a must! This comes across when you are in the sunshine or in bright lights at your venue, making you look more vibrant and sexy! Go for a style that compliments your everyday hair and personality. That way, you will look and feel ever so confident and relaxed and will therefore enjoy your special day even more!
How can you get your hair ready for your wedding? You should find a hairdresser well before your wedding day. Consultations are crucial!! Make sure you feel confident in the hairdresser you find. Connecting with your hairdresser and being on the same wave length as him/her is ever so important - you're more likely to achieve the look you're after. I always advise against any drastic changes before your wedding day (such as a colour change or a major cut) as you'll only look back at your photos and think 'my god' I shouldn't have gone for such a drastic cut/colour. Go for a subtle change - that's if you're looking to change your style prior to the wedding. Ask as many questions as possible and make sure you have an 'unrushed' consultation - remember, this is your most special day of your life and one where you'll look back at with the photos and film footage.
Common bridal mistakes I always emphasize that if you never ever put your hair up, what's the point of doing it on your wedding day? You want to feel like you - this is what will make you feel comfortable and confident on your most special day.
How you should get inspired so you know how you want your hair to look on your wedding day? Go through as many bridal hair / hair / lifestyle magazines as possible. Cut out the ones you like and also the ones you dislike and take these along to your consultation with your hairdresser. This should give him/her a good starting point of what you're after. Then after the consultation, just keep the photos that you like and keep on looking at these until your next hair trial with your hairdresser. If you're inspired by these photos then you're on the right track. The final part of inspiration is down to your hairdresser on the day of your final hair trial day. Make sure your 100% happy with the trial results!

Bridal Hair by Inanch London for Brides Magazine. Bridal hair styles are definitely becoming more groomed and elegant says Inanch Emir, Celebrity Bridal Hair Stylist and Resident Hairdresser for Brides Magazine. Those glamorous waves are back! Good old fashioned pincurls are the easiest way to achieve these 1920s bridal hair styles.
How to achieve the look:
Apply Technipli Rootspray on damp hair, then diffuse the hair to get as much volume as possible. Once the hair is around 95% dry and depending on your hair texture, you would need to smooth out the top layers of your hair (especially if you have frizzy hair) using a brush. The next step is to wrap sections of your hair around your index and middle finger. Pull out your fingers and secure the hair in place with a pincurl clip. Once you have done this all over the head diffuse until the hair is dry and then let it cool down and brush out. To add that healthy and glossy look, use a small amount of Phytolisse serum. Finally, arrange your hair in to its natural waves that have formed from your pincurls. Voila!!! Now put that gorgeous dress on along with your gloves - maybe even the hair piece!
