Natural Hair Care Tips

Looking for a better way to take care of that unmanageable hair? This article has natural hair care tips for the African American woman and everyone else too.

1. Moisturize,Moisturize,Moisturize. Moisture is your friend. Your hair is more susceptible to breakage because the oil secreted by the sebaceous gland does not have the opportunity to distribute itself all the way down the hair shaft since our hair is very tightly coiled.

2. Wash hair frequently. If your hair is chronically dry use your discretion. However, clean hair means healthier hair. Washing often rids the scalp of buildup from hair products and also gives the opportunity for the scalp to be stimulated by massage during shampooing.Use the base of your fingers to massage scalp and not your fingernails.

3. Use a shampoo that has a pH that is neutral, about 7.

4. Use some good essential oils.Avoid mineral or petrolatum and their by-products, as these could cause hair to become even more brittle and dry as they tend to inhibit moisture intake into the hair shaft.

5. Use a wide tooth comb to comb hair.Fine toothed combs pull and snag hair out causing hair breakage and loss.Use a paddle brush to brush hair when needed.

6. Use a silk scarf to tie head at night. This eliminates friction of hair shaft on rougher fabric.

Some good essential oils you can use are:

Lavender
Eucalyptus
Rosemary Oil
Tea Tree Oil
Ylang-Ylang
Chamomile
Peppermint

Some carrier oils are:

Jojoba Oil
Sweet almond Oil
Olive oil
Coconut oil

Be sure to use caution when using essential oils. Try a little first to see the effect or reaction of the skin. Do a search on any search engine about essential oils to get the quantity to be mixed with carrier oils. Here's to the health of your hair.
