Looking After your Hair Extensions
So, you’ve took the plunge and invested in some gorgeous real hair extensions. You’re loving that just stepped out of the salon look, and are especially loving those admiring glances from on lookers, but how exactly can you look after your hair extensions in order to keep them looking great every single day?
In order to get some of the best hair extensions, you will no doubt have spent a decent amount of money on them. In order to find great quality hair extensions that will last the time stated, you need to look into visiting a hair extension specialist who will not only talk you through every stage of the process, including which type of hair extensions will be best for what you’re looking for, but also so you are provided with some of the highest quality extensions. Your stylist will more than likely give you some tips on how to look after your new hair, but here, you will find some additional help to keep your locks looking salon fresh and in great condition.
As your stylist will tell you, you can wash and treat real hair extensions much like your own hair. However, when washing them, do this either standing up in the shower or in a back wash similar to that in your salon. Never wash it in dirty, soapy water and always ensure you use separate shampoo and conditioner to help stop residue from building up in your hair. Conditioner is important as this will help smooth down the hair and keep the cuticles flat, as well as keeping your hair as tangle free as possible. Comb through with a wide toothed comb, taking care to not pull on the hair as this could cause the extensions and/or your real hair to break. You should also never apply any henna or hot oil treatments as this can damage the extensions, but your stylist will notify you of products to stay away from before applying your hair.
Just like your natural hair, you can style and dry hair extensions in any style you desire. However, when drying and straightening your hair, be sure to not get any heated appliance to close to the hair as this could potentially weaken the bonds in your extensions, causing them to fall out. In order to cause minimal damage, dry your hair in sections as this will help eliminate knots, but be patient with it as to not cause snagging or breaking of the hair. The beauty of hair extensions however, is that you do not require to wash them as often as your natural hair, leaving you with more time to glam up on a night out, or even just on an everyday basis.
Investing in hair extensions can be an expensive part of your beauty regime, so make sure you do your upmost to keep them looking as beautiful as you feel when you wear them.
