With synthetic hair extensions you cant really style them and you cant wash them in the same way as you would your normal hair. With human hair extensions they can be treated as real hair. You are able to wash your hair in the same way and you are free to blow dry and straighten your hair extensions. The only thing I would say is do these things in a more gentle way than you normally do.
As synthetic hair is pretty much made up of plastic it is important that you dont style your extensions using heat as this would simply melt your extensions. If your hair extensions are made up of a mixture of synthetic hair and human hair then they should be treated extremely gently when it comes to using heat styling.
