Am I Making My Hair Fall Out?

Your choice of hairstyle could be making your hair fall out. Wearing your hair in tight pigtails or a cornrow style could be damaging your hair. This is a type of hair loss called traction alopecia. It can also be caused by rolling your hair very tightly on rollers. The pulling on your scalp can cause scarring and permanent hair loss is possible. If the condition is discovered before the scarring develops, your hair will grow back naturally. Harsh chemical hair treatments can also cause hair loss. Hot oil treatments or permanent curling treatments may cause inflammation on your scalp, which can result in scarring and hair loss. Many women will seek hair loss treatment to deal with the damage done to their scalp and hair.

Some women seek hair replacement to deal with €œcommon baldness€. Males most often experience baldness. Sometimes this type of hair loss is called male-pattern baldness, or permanent-pattern baldness. This is a trait that is inherited and is usually seen in men. A hair line that recedes and baldness on the very top of the head are examples of male-pattern baldness. Women can develop pattern baldness too. It results in thinning hair all over the head and general loss of hair. Hair replacement solutions such as hair extensions are a good way to help women who are experiencing thinning hair.

There are medical treatments available for hair loss. If your medication is causing your current hair loss, your doctor may be able to switch your prescription to another drug. Correcting hormone imbalances or clearing up an infection can halt hair loss. Some medicines can help slow down or prevent hair loss. If treatment is not available for your hair loss, you may consider trying hair replacement, wigs, hairpieces, hair weaves or other hair loss solutions.

Women€™s hair loss can even be related to a mental condition. Trichotillomania is a hair pulling disorder. People with trichotillomania have the unstoppable urge to pull out their own hair. It is a very emotionally upsetting condition. People who suffer from this condition will pull out hair from their scalp, eyebrows or other areas of their body. Hair pulling from the head can result in a pattern of bald spots. The cause of trichotillomania is unknown. Although trichotillomania may seem like an obsessive compulsive disorder, it is not. The condition is considered as an impulse control disorder. Behavior therapy can help people who suffer with trichotillomania learn about their hair pulling compulsion and practice techniques to stop hair pulling.
