“A great set of hair extensions begins by having your own hair and scalp in healthy condition” – Inanch Emir.

Hair extensions are a cosmetic procedure and they should be applied to healthy hair. The hair should be at least 5-8cms in length to provide comfortable attachments.

There are some medical conditions that may make a minority of clients unsuitable for extensions, which is why we insist that the client has an in-depth consultation with their hair extensionist. At this stage, we can determine the suitability of applying hair extensions on the client’s own hair and also be confident that we can produce a high quality result with the most natural looking hair extensions.

What hair do we use?

The best quality hair extensions are those that go unnoticed and are 100% ethically sourced human hair, naturally double drawn (slightly tapered towards the ends) and 100% remy which means that all the hair strands are facing in the right direction from root to tip. This is the type of hair that we use – AAA quality.

Where is the hair sourced from?

Our hair is sourced from South India mainly from the Tirupati temple in Chennai, as well as other smaller temples up to 350km from our location. We have one person that handles all of our hair purchasing for us. After many years, he understands to bring us only the freshest and highest quality hair. We pay a higher price and it takes longer to collect new hair, but it is worth the wait and privilege to select only the best. Good raw hair is as important to us as only the best and freshest foods are to a gourmet chef.

How is the hair processed?

Unlike other hair extension brands where the hair is processed in large baths, our hair is processed bundle by bundle. We are not a factory but more of a made-to-order production house that does not load up on inventory. Producing hair in small quantities takes us more time, but gives us more control over quality and finish.

What are the bonds made from?

Our bond [known as Polymer bonds] is a clear polyamide hot melt bond custom formulated for strength and endurance. It has been tested and proven to last through normal and aggressive wear and tear and holds for an average of four months or longer.

What method of hair extensions is better for you?

This will depend on various factors including your own hair texture, lifestyle and how much time and money you are willing to spend on your hair extensions. Pre-bonded hair extensions offer the least maintenance as these normally last up to 4 months with minimal visits to the salon providing that they are maintained correctly. Micro-ring hair extensions generally require re-adjusting every 6-8 weeks although they can be re-used and are more cost effective. All the options should be discussed at the consultation with the hair extensions specialist.

Is cold fusion or hot fusion application better for my hair?

There is no such thing as “cold fusion” which is used as a marketing term. This method of attachment still uses ultrasonic waves that generate heat at the point of attachment – similar to heat being generated with a microwave. With hot fusion, our application machines are only hot on one side of the application arm (the Teflon tips). As long as this is the side that touches the bond and not your own hair, then you are unlikely to get any damage to your hair or scalp. All our stylists/extensionists are fully trained to “Gold Class” standards which includes professional usage of the Gold Class hair extensions application machine.

Are human hair extensions better, and why?

Human hair extensions are better because they create more of a natural look and effect and you can also use heated tools to style the hair. We use Indian hair because it has a slight natural wave to it which blends and styles better with the clients’ own hair.

If my hair is curly, can I have hair extensions?

You will never get the exact curl but if you are willing to style your hair or blow dry your hair straight, then yes you can have hair extensions. The alternative would be to perm the hair extensions but this could cause some dryness to the extensions.

Will hair extensions help my hair grow?

Hair extensions do not help the hair grow, but most people will style their own hair less whilst wearing extensions and tend to look after their hair more with regular treatments and supplements. This subsequently aids the health and condition of your own hair and in some cases helps your hair grow healthier.

Will extensions damage my own hair?

A: If applied correctly and by a professional extensionist trained to Gold Class standards, hair extensions should not cause any damage to your hair or scalp. Damage can be occurred if the bonds are applied too close to the scalp and technically not applied correctly, for example: messy sectioning. It is also important to follow the aftercare advice which should be given to you by your extensionist – one of which is to brush your hair on a daily basis to avoid matting.

Can I remove my own hair extensions when they are due for removal?

Absolutely not. Your hair extensions must be professionally removed with the appropriate removal tools/products and ideally at the salon that you had them applied. Failure to have them removed by an experienced person can cause serious damage to your own hair and scalp.

How often should I wash my hair and how?

You do not have to change how often you wash your hair but how you wash it. Do not shampoo your hair for at least 48 hours after your hair extensions have been applied. This will allow the bonds to set.

Brush your hair thoroughly before shampooing and whilst shampooing try not to rub and matt your hair – use a massaging motion instead. Always remember that shampoo is for the scalp and conditioner is for the hair. Use your prescribed shampoo and conditioner that will help prolong the life and appearance of your hair extensions and bonds.

Any conditioners or conditioning treatments should only be applied to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair and NOT the bond itself. Applying any treatment on the bonds will cause them to deteriorate.

How much should I expect to pay?

This all depends on your individual requirements and how many extensions are applied and the length of the hair extensions. Please refer to the salon’s Price List for further information.

How long will hair extensions last?

If you follow the aftercare maintenance guide and look after your hair, they should last up to 4 months – sometimes longer, but we always advise clients to have them removed after 4 months and to give their hair a short break before having their next set of extensions applied.

Can I re-use my hair extensions?

Our pre-bonded hair extensions are processed in a more raw state, which means that they cannot be re-used as they won’t last beyond 5-6 months. Also, once you cut the bonds off, the hair ends up being shorter. As for micro-rings, the hair is processed with more silicone coating so that they can last longer but in our opinion, they do not feel as natural as your own hair.

How do I look after my hair extensions?

Brush your hair on a daily basis with a soft bristle brush. While sleeping, swimming or doing any form of sport, tie your hair in a low ponytail or a plait – this will prevent the hair from matting.

How long does my hair have to be to have them fitted?

The crown area of your hair needs to be long enough to be able to cover the bonds when applied so, basically, your hair on the top section should reach your nape. If it doesn’t then we always advise clients to wait for their hair to grow until they reach this point.

How long can I do?

In order for the extensions to look completely natural, we recommend that you do not go longer than double the length of your own hair.

Can I colour my own hair with my hair extensions?

Any hair colouring should be done prior to your hair extensions colour match so that the colour matching is spot-on. Once your hair extensions are applied, you can still have the roots of your own hair coloured. You can also have colour toners or semi-permanent colours applied over the whole hair but we do not recommend bleaching the hair extensions at any time.

Can I apply a straightening or relaxer treatment on my hair with my hair extensions?

A: You should not have any chemical straightening or relaxing treatments applied on your hair whilst you have the hair extensions in. This should be done at least 2-7 days prior to your hair extensions being applied depending on the system you are using.
On rare occasions, if the client is a regular and they are having just the top of their hair straightened/relaxed, then you can do this all on the same day with the treatment carried out first followed by the hair extensions application.

I want hair extensions for my wedding/holiday. When should I get them done ?

If you are a hair extensions virgin, our advice is to have them applied at least 2 weeks before any special occasion or holiday. This gives you the time to play around and get used to your hair extensions and have any adjustments done if required.

Can I have hair extensions if I am expecting?

A: Yes you can as there are no chemicals that come in to direct contact with your scalp. The only thing that we would recommend is that you have your extensions removed before the baby is born so that if you are bed-bound for any reason you don’t need to worry about your hair matting. You can then have a new set of extensions applied as soon as you are back on your feet
